I live in tucson and for the first 20 something years my parents lived out here we were only allowed to use a clothes line, the only time we could use the dryer is if we have rain for days on end, which if you know Tucson doesnt happen very often.I think we average 360 days of sunshine a year.but now that they are in their 70s they dont ever use the clothes line,of course they dont have 4 kids living at home either!

Mom had one of these when I was growing up. I miss it. Was nice standing in 1 spot on the back porch and just hanging wash out. Much better than those square drying lines w/ center post . Now, in developments, it is not allowed to hang clothes out, but I still do sometimes. Love the fresh smell. Better than dryed in dryer.

Some of us remember hanging our children's cloth diapers on an outdoor clothes line, so do I as it was the only option available back in the 1950's. The down side was that most of us didn't have a washing machine, or weren't allowed to have one in our apartment, boy it wasn't fun washing the diapers of the kids when they were older and eating table foods.

I love hanging the wash out.. I have a load of lights and a load of darks out now. Yesterday the sheets. They smell so good when you climb in between them at night..

Hah! I'm in Las Vegas! I could start folding the laundry dry off the line before I finished hanging the whole load! Hey.... That might be a great idea!

We used to use a clothesline til the birds decided to leave us calling cards all over the laundry. Oh, well......

Good job there, hubby. I am sure you are right about amortizing the cost. I loved my clothes line until my DH decided I am too unstable on my feet to use it safely and took it down. (At least that's what he claims.)
