thank you all again for all the 'praise'
i am humbled.
a couple of you commented about a 'new way of quilting'....i simply did free motion quilting on it- nothing special- if you are talking about the Broidery perse---that is an applique technique---instead of drawing/tracing shapes, cutting them out & using them- you use fabric prints to create your designs...it is a very old technique- victorian ladies used it alot- with toile fabrics & florals. i had a wonderful piece of fabric with these beautiful flowers & dragonflies- i cut it into a 1/2 yard piece- fused a piece of heat & bond lite to the back of it- then took up scissors & started cutting out the parts i wanted to use- layed them out on the quilt top in an arrangement i liked- fused them down- applique stitched them down- as fabulous as this quilt turned out it is also the fastest one i've done- in a long time- after the green background was dyed, washed & dried i started with the Celtic knot for the center- took about an hour- Another by Anita's patterns are very easy & forgiving- with wonderful results!
maybe 1/2 an hour deciding on the flowers/dragonflies, cutting them out & fusing them down- 1/2 an hour to stitch them all on- and it was ready for quilting! i kind of felt guilty for making it so fast- since a pieced quilt takes alot longer- but i guess since it came out so nice that sometimes maybe it's ok to put one together in just a couple hours-
the first one took alot longer- but that was due to the extra tracing/cutting of the silhouette dragonflies- which have celtic knot wings- and the 1/4" piping=borders & heart corners... (and i kind of think of that one as the 'rough-draft' for this one)
