I use my orphan quilt blocks this way, they look great under all sorts of items.

These are awesome. You have inspired many to make them. I love the idea of one for a cake stand. You could make a different one for each occasion. I received a gift of wine glass coasters years ago made from beautiful lace. I have saved them for special occasions. These you could use anytime. Great idea.
