this is a floor at NY State Capital Building, it looks like a nice quilt pattern. The picture is not perfect, I was rushed, as we had to follow the tour guide.

That wouldn't be that difficult to do, looks like the orange peel and I forget the name of the center pattern. Many beautiful quilts have been made using a floor tile design.

I work in Albany and have never been to the capital building. It is a short uphill walk from my work! I work right across the street from a "quilted" building. Or at least that is what I call it. The outside walls are decorated with masonry work that are quilt blocks. LeMoyne star, a 16 patch, and I think a pinwheel design are among them. I am on vacation this week but when I go back I will try and take some pictures to share. Apparently the architects of downtown Albany were heavily influenced by patchwork quilters! There are many old buildings in downtown Albany, mixed in with the new. I positively adore the architecture of the older buildings, especially those from the turn of the 19th to 20th century. The capital building dates back to late 1800's. Many buildings that are still in used date back to late 18th, early 19th century and there are even a smattering still left from the original dutch settling era of the 17th century. Albany is a pretty fascinating area.

Isn't it funny that us quilters look at things a little different than others. I also see flooring and think "what a great quilt pattern that would make!" I think your picture would be easy to make a pattern from graph paper. Hope you enjoyed your tour too.

All you creative people with the right software could make a pattern for this. It would be a wonderful quilt.
I have a few MUCH simpler tile patterns in my folders that would work as quilts, too!

OH yes there are beautiful tiles in building. Especially European ones. there is a car commercial i think that shows several gorgeous floors that I would love to have.

by the way, the Capitol building is beautiful inside, reminds me a little bit of 'the library of Congress' in Washington, DC. I guess it is all European styles.
