    I like the idea of using ' bones' and 'paws'. Fire hydrants might work well too, but they would be so hard to do well.

    I would echo quilt around the dogs and do paws and bones in your sashing and borders. Here is a link to a cat quilt I did with FMQ done around pawprint shapes. It was really easy to do once I marked out the paw prints on the quilt top. Sroll to the third picture for a closeup of the paw prints
