Default OBW on the front, hex on the back!

It's my first OBW, an Asian fabric and the many colors made it a challenge to arrange. I rejected a lot of blocks. Instructions (this was a surprise to me as I was hoping to have great fun rearranging) said the straight of grain had to be on outside of the hex so there was no option to rearrange the triangles. The back is a huge hexagon. I mainly outline quilted the back and meandered around the hex center points to avoid the seams...and because my quilting skill is limited.
    Now for an octagon!

Very pretty indeed! Love the fabric. I would have trouble deciding which was the front.

I really like this. The back is ingenious.

    Beautiful!

Only one problem ... you can't see both sides at the same time!

I just bought fabric for a OBW and now I wish I had brought extra for a back like yours, but the shop is too far away. Really neat. I understand the logic behind having the straight grain on the outside of the hex, but I've made several of these and never heard that before. It really is fun rearranging the triangles. You just have to be careful not to stretch the bias.
