    Default Ocean Songs

It is a discontinued panel from a Laurel Burch series called Ocean Songs. I had to buy three different times, which I had to search on the net. The first one, a friend begged for, as her daughter has a thing for mermaids. We made a quilt for her adult daughter, who was hoping to conceive. We added a little charm and our best wishes, she had twins! The second one, I made almost identical to the final one. I told a very good friend to pick whatever projects I had made as a present. Before I could say "except the mermaid" she promptly picked the mermaid and told me how much she loved it. How could I say no. This one pictured is the third and final version. What the pictures don't show is the amazing sparkle, I added LOTS of Swarovski crystals. It hangs in my sewing studio and it catches the morning sun. It almost looks alive from all the sparkles. My guild calls me the queen of bling. I also used dupioni silk for the final border and gold thread. My mermaid is one of my favorites.

Beautiful. I love Laura Birch's fabric designs. It made me sad to learn she had passed away a few years ago. The quilting community lost a wonderful artist.

I too love Laurel Burch stuff (especially her cat stuff, sew happy she was a feline fanatic too!). Your mermaid panel is no exception, it is beautiful and I too wish the photo could pick up the bling. Clothworks always does this with the Laurel B stuff, they have it out for a very short period of time so if you see something you like, you better snap it up and buy more than you think you will need. Actually, that seems to be the trend with all fabric manufacturers. Lines are introduce, run and then discontinued. With Laurel Burch, I have seen them re-release on occasion. I suspect it is more licensing issues with Laurel Burch designs which is still up and running. But if they kept the stuff out for longer or re-released more often I think everyone would be happier for it.

I really like it and I can see why the crystals would enhance it. Beautiful.
