Adding my 2 cents worth to the pattern, The Ohio Star has 9 squares like the 9 patch. Variable star, for example, has 16 squares.

It's terrific! Doesn't it feel great to try something new and learn as you go?

Thank you for the very kind responses! The first time I tried this block at quilt camp I was so pleased with myself ....until I measured it out and it was much smaller than the required size!! I had been so careful about that quarter inch seam. I couldn't figure out where I had gone wrong. Another quilter came over to help me asked me what ruler I had used, when I showed her ... It turns out I had used a set of rulers that was different than a traditional ruler. Once I used my own rulers at home the block came out perfect. As I said in my post now I'm hooked on any kind of star block!!
    Thank you again!

Very nice and pretty colours! Table runners are great for trying out new techniques/patterns.

Thank you again!! I saw this gorgeous blue fabric online and couldn't resist buying it! Well.. To be truthful I didn't try very hard!! I'm going to make some placemats with the leftover fabric. I'm happy I have enough left to make at least two.
