I agree a quilt can not be too big.
I hate it when the sheets show behind the quilt (and I hate tucking them in so when you get into it later you've pulled the bottom sheet out...)
I have often added width or borders.
I think yours looks balanced and altering the borders may mess up that balance.

It looks just like the UFO I have sitting on my shelf! Only...yours is finished and alot nicer!!
If you got it from the quilt in a day pattern book, you probably inadvertantly chose the "extra long" twin size. That is what I undertook too. It is made to have a pillow tuck. Don't rip any out! Think about the fact that it is for a boy...his toes will just barely reach the bottom by the time he's probably done growing!!
Congrats on finishing it! It looks GREAT! Inspires me to want to finish mine...only I discovered I don't have enough of the fabric to finish it. :(

I sure wouldn't make it smaller. As it is right now, there would be a 17 inch drop on the sides. Remember, when it is quilted, some of those inches will be taken up. My first quilt was made for a queen size bed, everything fit exactly the way I wanted it too. Lightly quilted it, and it ended fitting a full size bed just right.

It will be fine. My turning twenty quilts are 70"x86" and they just cover a twin with a little drop. It may be a little long, but can be folded down at the top. When He is 6ft3in tall, He will think that You are a Queen.

He rolls up in it and LOVES it just the way it is. When he makes the bed he puts it to the floor on the one side it looks just fine. Just think later down the road he will have it for his bigger bed.
