The Dec/Jan 2013 of Quilt didn't name it, but the feature was called "Make It Modern". You can see the beautifully quilted version that was in the magazine at http://pinterest.com/pin/248612841901786456/ So the people who mentioned wholecloth designs were spot on. However, all that work would have been lost on Marji, but I am going to attempt it in the version I'm making for myself with different fabrics. Thanks for all the lovely comments!
