The quilt may be well loved, but what a treasure. My Mom made quilts, unfortunately, with 5 boys and 2 girls with me being the youngest, none of them survived as they were well used.

Such a lovely find. Can you imagine how much work and time it took to make that? Doesn't a quilt like that just beg a gazillion questions?

I found my great, great grandmothers quilts (not in good shape at all) and cut the pieces out that were not too bad. Some had stuffing falling out but the backing was still intact. I made several teddy bears holes and worn out areas were used and passed them to my kids. I also used antique buttons for the eyes. There are stars, diamonds, squares and football shapes. Some made of wood, bone, sea shell and what ever they used then. I really loved the buttons and they were hard to give up but they cried out to be used on the teddy bears. They are a favorite among them. They were allowed to play with them when they were still little but now they take center stage on chairs and unused beds.
