Wow... this is something. The quilts my grandmother made disintegrate over the years. I would wash it by hand with woolite in the tub and have two people ring the water out of it and hand it on a clothes line. There are some certain kind of boxes you can preserve them in instead just putting them on a shelve.

As a suggestion ... perhaps put a permanent label on there, so that as it gets passed along the generations the story can be told. Include the names, their birth/death dates and the approx year you think it was made ... and any other family lore related.

The hand written note is nice, though pieces of paper fall off and get lost!
scan this handwritten note and print it on fabric you can run through your printer ... a great keepsake ... you can add more information underneath

How wonderful that you have these beautiful quilts that are a part of your family history. I would personally be afraid to wash anything so special, so precious. You might want to bring them around to the different dry cleaners in your area and compare their methods of stain removal suggestions and prices, and then choose one of them to professionally clean them for you. You definitely should label them with the story. Good luck and thank you for sharing!

Very nice. I would scan the note and put it on fabric. Laminate the origional and keep it safe somewhere. That quilt must be very special.
