That's a beautiful quilt...Your story tugs at my heart, as I am approaching your age and though I do not have as much fabric as I could have (or as some of this group do), I will most likely never use it all up and will definitely have scraps for someone else. I HAVE quit buying fabric though I often look...and still buy batting and backing fabric if I need it.

It's gorgeous! You definitely need a plan in place so your lovely things don't get incinerated. (Want my address?)

By the way, that's the reason we have wills! You can forbid them to touch your stuff!

I only have one cut of fabric that I would call cherished and I just purchased it about 6 months ago. I am waiting for the perfect pattern to rise up to use for this 2 yard cut. But, I am working diligently at using my stash so no one will have to deal with much when I pass away. I have a daughter who quilts but our styles are so not the same. She would not likely want my stash or my machines. I hope she sells the machines, donates the stash to my guild and enjoys the profits to make her own quilts.

Keep sewing and cherish the moments. You are very talented. I hope someone in your family recognizes that talent and honors you by treasuring your creations.
