Opinions and suggestions on this baby quilt layout

Uh oh, I'm on the other side here. I think the charm squares are too big of a "blank" area with the smaller, very busy print of the quilt. If the charm pack pieces were smaller, I would like it better, but I think it competes with the quilt in the standard size. I totally agree with taking out the black as there isn't any black in the panel and it does look harsh.

Ditto and learn the colors as well, Love it. They use another one for nap time.

I want to make just a drag around quilt for my little man that is due in May. I want to put a small red border and then add these charm pack squares around it. Does this look ok, should I maybe use another border color....do the squares look good? or should I just add a border and not the squares?
Thanks for any suggestions.
