Here is my problem. This pattern is Akahana by red rooster fabrics. I really like Asian fabric by Chong a Hwang (really, really like). It is meant to stand alone with just the black. It is only 54x74 and won't even cover the top of a queen-sized bed. Does the border print overwhelm the center? What suggestions would you make for alternatives? I intend to flip the fabric so that the left-most strip of flowers would be next to the black. Or not? Or just use the border strip by itself. I modified the pattern to utilize the stack and whack method and made octagons rather than the circles which was indicated by the pattern. Suggestions.

I like your idea with the border print. Are you going to add anymore to the outer edges? Maybe consider a black beyond the border print. It would only add more of the the Asian flair of your quilt. Just my quick reaction to your photos.

Lovely center and border print! I don’t think the border print overwhelms it at all. I think it helps balance the dark background around the panel.

Your quilt is going to be spectacular whichever way you choose. What I notice about the floral border are the gold bands in it. Your quilt body has what looks to me to be a salmon-colored inner border and partial frame, not gold. If you need a larger quilt, do you have any more of the small gold and salmon print used in one of the inner borders? I would prefer outer borders of the smaller print and more salmon fabric. It is lovely, and I can see why you love those fabrics.

OOOW! very pretty--I like an outside border on that so that the octagons and strips "frame" that awesome panel---but wonder what it would look like with just a black border the same width of the print border (and maybe use the bring on the back)? If that's a no-go, then yes to the print border.

I would add more black between the center portion you have done before you add the border. Putting the wide border so close really closes off the beautiful center. Another thought....to transition to the border, what about adding a similar row as the crosses with the hexagons, but do it in red and do it on the opposite corners? But I still would add some extra black regardless. That center just shouts out "float me".

All of your selections are appropriate and spectacular. I would not be afraid to continue on making it bigger beyond the floral boarder. Continue to showcase different options on the next selection of boarders. What you have chosen already is brilliant, you should trust your judgement, you are very talented and have a good eye for color and design.
