First I traced a copy of a photo of coneflowers in my garden, then I traced it on the fabric. I sandwiched muslin, batting and the silk, and with monofiliment thread free motion sewed my tracing. Then I added resist to the areas I didn't want to bleed. then just started mixing colors and did my first layer of paint, let it dry thoroughly, took 2 days.
I then went back and highlighted where I wanted more color, and let it dry again.
Next, I used variegated thread and thread painted where I wanted to add emphasis.
I then added a border and backing, and quilted. The beads were added last.
It was fun, a learning process, as it was the first time I tried it.
The other 2 are done with acrylic on muslin, and I'm not sure I like it as much. The paints are much more stiffer than the watercolor. Had to try it though.
