what a great photo. Can the bird eat the fruit in the tree? Maybe he's not so dumb if so. Are they bigger than a piegon? Very interesting to see critters not found in our own front yards, thanks for sharing.......

I saw this before, it's such a beautiful bird. Thanks for sharing.... great photo too! There at the right time!
The only bird we have here in California close to this is a pheasant, hard to get a nice picture of them you've got to be out there in the rice fields.

Do you think your grouse is related to my grouse? We call them grouse here in Newfoundland or ptarmigan... This fellow had five companions and stripped the crab apple tree bare in a day! Seems like they like the taste of those bitter little crab apples! They are big birds and shall I dare say it? Are very tasty little things!

Your grouse looks really fat! lol I think they are distant cousins! :) Mine cleaned off the crab apple tree over the span of a week. I leave the fruit on the tree for the birds until the bears go into hibernation then I can put the feeders out.
