OK, I finally finished the patriotic quilt and I am quilting it now, but something about it was bugging me.......it finally hit me - the flag has too many stripes and stars. I could kick myself. Now in order for me to really feel good about this quilt, I want to rip out the flag and make it the right way....with the correct amout of stars and stripes; especially since I am giving this as a gift. If I can't rip it out, maybe I can put another flag over it.

Would appreciate your input on this one. Thanks.

I also attached a picture of the flower girl quilt and added the piano keys border. I like the way it turned out. I am hoping to completely quilt this one by October 9th for my granddaughter's birthday party. Yikes!

I think I'd just put the 'new' flag over it...

I never would've noticed the flag, if you didn't tell me about it. If it really bothers you, then put another flag on top of this one.

I just love the flower girl quilt with it's bright colors!

I seem to remember from my Boy Scout days that the real flag was never supposed to be used for a "common" use, such as a garment or a blanket. These items will be handled disrespectfully (wadded up in the laundry, spread out on the ground, etc). That's why you see stars and stripes on clothing and such that are representative of the flag without actually being a flag. I recommend you keep the image as is. Thanks for sharing - this is a great patriotic quilt.

I thought of your flag as a stylized one, not supposed to be an exact
replica of our actual US Flag. So, I guess I would not change it.

It is lovely the way it is, but I do know how you might feel.

Well, if the flag is really bothering you, then by all means fix it. If you don't, you will always be haunted by it! Trust me.......I have experience in this area!! I've ripped out much more than a flag -- how about nearly 2/3 of a nearly-queen sized quilt top because there was a difference in the dye lot of the background fabric!!?? Everyone told me to "let it go," "no one will even notice it," etc. Well, it was for a school auction, and I decided to do what I felt was right -- fix it! I searched everywhere for the matching dye lot for the 1/3 section so I wouldn't have to rip so much of it apart, and couldn't find it!! So I ended up getting enough fabric to replace the 2/3 section! When I was finished, I knew I had done the right thing. I felt much better about the quilt. I still have that leftover fabric!! Hmmmmm.....maybe I should put it to good use!

I must agree with Darren and Marilyn, it should be representational not realistic. It is so nice as is. You did the right thing and didn't know it says my Marine husband.
