My husband volunteers at a local elementary school; he's been in the same 2nd grade classroom with the same teacher for 6 years now. The teacher is retiring this week, and I made a Pear Table Runner for her today as a retirement gift from us. She grew up in a rural part of Oregon and her Dad had acres of Pear Trees. So I adapted this wonderful wall hanging from McCall's Quilting into a Table Runner.

It was the first time I had used thread to paint texture on an applique (instead of bonding)-- and it was so easy! The pears stems and leaves all have texture too. I will use this technique a lot in the future!

Beautiful! I'm sure the teacher will be surprised especially since your DH remember her story about growing up with pear trees. She will be able to look back and continue to remember thanks to you. Great job!
