Peek-a-Boo, an A B C quilt
Just finished the top and backing for our new grand child due on October 1. Sex to be determined at birth, their choice. I picked the pattern Surprise! by kariepatchdesigns.com and used a charm pack from ethelbird.com to make the hidden images. Ethelbird has charm packs that are already sorted in novelty fabrics A-Z for close to $10. Since I don't usually purchase novelty fabrics, this was a no-brainer and so much more economical for me. I used their on point layout but made it 4 x 4 for 25 letters of the alphabet, in order of course to accommodate by OCD, ha, ha, and put the Z on the back. The Z block is centered because I didn't have enough backing, so cut the backing in quarters and "swirled it" around the enlarged block to make it big enough : ) I figured the flaps on the backing block would be a nuisance, so just snowballed it instead. The new baby has a sibling that will be 3 in November, so figured it will be a fun floor quilt for many years: first to chew on, then finger, then notice the shapes and finally put names with the faces/designs. So much fun for the maker too. I plan on quilting with an invisible thread in the ditch and then use a variegated thread in the black setting triangles in the shape of animals. That is my plan, subject to change, when I decide if my quilting is good enough LOL Enjoy! The finished quilt is 54" square.
