I have a quilt top my MIL made and marked about 7 or 8 years ago. I just found it in a box of stuff we recieved after she passed away. She marked it in a shell pattern, it's a large top 108" x 110". How do I get the pencil marks out? I plan on machine quilting it in a different pattern. Should I wash it before I quilt it or after?

I can't wait to hear the answer to this one, I recently came across some marked fabric and couldn't get the pencil out myself.

How long were the pencil marks on the top? These have been on for 7 or 8 years. I guess I should just wash it, what do I have to lose.

Sometimes a gum eraser (art supply store) will take out pencil that has been there awhile....in case you dont want to wait to wash...

    If the top wasn't so large I would but it's 108 x 110

I got yrs old pencil marks out by soaking in Oxy clean and also rubbing the marks a bit while wet. good luck. if you wash it, do it on water only. no detergent. that sets marks for some reason.
