Default A Petal Party Baby-To-Tot Quilt

A cousin from DH's father's side of the family married a cousin of his from his biological father's side of the family and they're expecting their first baby. They both lost a grandmother to cancer this year and both special ladies were DH's beloved aunts. So, when I first started this baby quilt, I wanted to incorporate the love that both grandmothers would have shown this baby.

One of DH's aunts loved butterflies and the other loved gardening and flowers. So, I quilted butterflies and flowers within hearts alternately in the white blocks. In the focus block, I appliqued kanzashi flowers atop quilted butterflies. On the back I appliqued a fussy cut butterfly from one of DH's aunt's favorite sweatshirt and appliqued a fussy cut flower within a heart from the other DH's aunt's bedroom curtains.

I wanted to make this quilt in such a way that it would seem as if both grandmothers were there to wrap the baby up in their love. This quilt was so emotional for me to make. Both women were so strong and wonderful ladies. Even DH started to tear up when he saw me working on it.
