Patti, if you can bear to do more appliqué, you could do a plainish background (uneven sizes to even up the measurements) and do a vine in the green with some burgundy buds? I think ninnie's right about putting some more dark. :-D

Glad you explained, I thought I was loosing it
I like the idea of a dark burgundy background with the green stems and some more flowers, if you want to do more applique.
It would make the center larger. And it doesn't have to be square, most quilts aren't. It is going to be a beautiful one for sure. Lots of possibilities.

Hmmm....ya'll have some great ideas..now I'll have to dig around and see if I have anything more to match this in my stash. I had the applique in mind, but was going to do it on a pieced border (that hourglass shape-whatever that block is called)...I'll think some more today...I really appreciate your help!

I don't see the problem with having unequal borders! Makes it interesting to work on - and with your applique floral center (which is as beautiful as always!), the borders can be different lengths and with some applique in the corner blocks or in the borders themselves will just add to the fluidity!

I agree mama...uneven borders are fine...I just wanted them to end up divisable by SOME number    As it is, it is very difficult to find a block that works out without causing a major headache (well, at least to me  - I am math challenged) So anyway...I dug around and here is what I've come up with...a darker rust for the background...then the vine that is wound on the spool..the 2 different greens for the leaves and then the blue/brown and gold for the flowers...probably tulip type or something else round. DH says it passes on the color match is ok.....so what do ya'll think of going this direction?
background and....

Those are all great! I love the darker rust colored one, and the dark one with the olive green flowers is beautiful. they all go together with the center great. What is that you are using for the stems? I think I need to get me some of that    If I didn't have to make bias , I might do some applique.

Ha Ha Ninnie...that is some leftover bias that I made for Esqmommy's center from the applique I did in Group 4. So...I think there is enough there to do what I want to do here. I made it doing the "circular bias" ...I hadn't done it that way before and it made a ton!!! Which I was glad..since now I have it already done.
But...ok...so now, I'll have to sleep and dream exactly how I need to do this part, then I'll get started.
