Hi again all,
Thanks so much for all the kind feedback...I just felt great to get it done...and that it turned out not too bad with all the plaid! (Bad rhyme not intended...lol)
For all who wanted to know the pattern, etc:
I found some of the block patterns here http://fatcatpatterns.com/Children%20Designs.html ...5 of them, I think. The others I googled free color book pages, found ones I liked, printed them off, and adapted to fabric. I used Heat and Bond, doing the "window frame" method on the larger areas. I then did machine applique around each piece, using thread that matched each piece. That was quite a bit of work, but I tried using black or grey thread, and I just liked the coordinating better, just personal choice. I then squared up the blocks, added the sashing, put on the borders, and actually had one more outer plaid border, didn't like it, so took it off. I used 505 basting spray and warm&natural batting, quilted it (I did do hand quilting around the interior of each block, a kif thing...lol) the rest was machine quilting, did the red binding, and done!...If anyone has any other questions, just let me know..thanks again for all the help while I was making it, and sharing in my fun that it is finished...when lil nephew is here, will post it!!
