I either serge the armholes or do a Hong Kong finish on them. It depends on the jacket and the mood I'm in at the time.

I forgot to say that after I stitch the blocks on the base fabric, I usually do some "quilting" on it with decorative thread. It adds texture and a bit more color to the jacket. Again, depending on the jacket, I either do some sort of loose meandering or looping or occasionally something more structured.

Yes, I loved the fabrics, too. It was my first ever kit purchase. I wasn't confident that I could pick fabrics as nice as those shown for the quilt so I bought the kit and then ended up adding some of my own fabrics to it.

When you stitch the blocks to the base fabric, you didn't use batting? I am wondering if you could use batting for a warmer jacket?

You could definitely use batting. Or you can use flannel which I do when I need to. I do it this way because we don't have cold weather here and I get to wear them a lot more if they are lighter weight.

You can just sandwich the outside pieced parts, batting and lining together and quilt them and then construct the jacket when that is done. You can either serge the seams to finish or use a Hong Kong finish. Hong Kong seam finish is easy to do on the side seams. I usually do that before I put the jacket together. The armholes are a bit harder but I've been known to do the Hong Kong finish on the side seams and then just serge the armholes. The armholes don't show that much anyway when you are wearing it.
