Very good idea for a functional item to help these young women remember what will be a very important time in their lives. So creative and thoughtful.

This is a reply to a message from a reader a few items back who mentioned losing a marking pen to an mischievous cat. I, too, have a creative cat who thinks my quilting tools are toys. I used 12.5" bamboo skewers when quilting to nudge stubborn fabric under the foot and onto the feed dogs. I also use them to make perfectly square corners on place mats and pot holders. I break them off to about 7.5" as they are easier to manage. One of our cats, Jack, loves to play with the shorter ones. I give him a new one once in a while but he much prefers stealing the ones I use. It doesn't take him long to lose them under the refrigerator or behind the couch! I'm very glad they are only $1.00 for a bag of 50 or more! I'm not very good with Photoshop but I had to darken Jack's one eye as he only has one and it photographed completely white and way too bright.

Love the placemats and the girls seem quite happy to get them. My GD goes to Northeastern U. in Boston. And like you its a distance for us to see her but she gave us a tour of it this past summer and its HUGE. Boston was fascinating and very crowded, loved it.

I made each one a flag of their adopted country, and coordinated the fabric for the 'front' side to the colors in their flag. (Made one of the good ol' USA to make a set of 4!) They seem to prefer the flag sides, although I meant that to be the 'back'! Makes me so happy to see their reactions, even tho I'm 3,000 miles away!
I remember seeing these-they are CUTE!
