Hand on heart here  I let them fall where they did There are places where the same 2 pieces ended up next to each other, but in the dark and light values scheme, they work. I am hoping, that when it is done, it is the pattern that will stand out, and then just an eye of lots of colors, that is if I do it right
I think, and this is just my opinion, that patterns were come by because our quilt ancestors had such a small amount of material, and didn't have a lot of choices, so they had to come up with different patterns to make their work stand out. It is easy to use a beautiful piece of material, and work around it. But to know that they could take the left over scraps from their clothing, and turn them into a work of art has always fascinated me. Oh, well, you know how strange I am

I can't give you the measurements, or show you how to make one, wish I could. But I think it is alright if I tell you, that each square is 2 1/2 in before sewing. There are 8 in a row, and 8 rows to each block, hope that helps. Here is where I found the pattern though. It is from a book called QUILT-LOVERS FAVORITES., VOL 10 From American patchwork and quilting. it is published by better homes and gardens.
also, here is a link to the Carpenter's Wheel

You can see where they are alike and where they are different. :-D
