I tend to be my own worst critic, finding faults where no one else sees them. However, that said, sailing into quilting blissfully ignorant and full of bravado, I say you're off to a great start into quilting. When I started quilting, I was basically self-taught, but had been sewing since I was 8 years old in various degrees. My DH spotted a "lap" quilt in a quilting magazine and told me I should make that for our "king" size bed. No problems there right? All I had to do was make more blocks to make a bigger quilt. Although not all my points matched, I made pieced basket blocks with pieced handles, combining two quilt blocks because I decided I didn't want to applique the handles (should have appliqued the handles), but I kept making blocks until my DH told me I had become a basket case, thus the name of the quilt and wound up with a king size quilt, which I proceeded to quilt on my DSM, including plain blocks with feathered wreaths. Did I make a prize winning quilt? No way, however, I look back on that quilt with pride, first that I finished it, quilted it on my DSM, quilted feathered wreath blocks, and made a beautiful quilt with the blocks set on point around a central medallion of 4 blocks surrounded by plain blocks, then finishing with more basket blocks. Is it perfect? No, and I don't believe I've ever made a perfect quilt, but the knowledge I gained making that quilt was immeasurable and it taught me that at times you just have to go for it and you will continue to make beautiful quilts. I know this is a long response, but quilting for me is a passion, an artistic endeavor, and a part of my life where I'm not afraid to just go for it and don't always question my decisions. So keep on quilting, if you love your quilt, others will too, and if not, well, you're happy with it and that's all that really matters.
