    I think a whole lot of both!!! He cuts every one of those tiny blocks out individually from scraps. Then he sews each one at a time on the machine in rows and then puts the rows together. You ought to hear him fuss when he runs out of a bobbin and doesn't realize right away! hahahaha! But, Yes, he has way more patience than I have.
