Pp challenge
This is the block that has made me decide I really don't like doing pp. It makes me a bit short tempered. I thought this was going to be a good way to use scraps pieces, but on second thought.........there are more Fun" ways to do that. And people talk about waste with die cutters...well there was a lot more from these four little blocks. It was going to be a bed quilt, but now I think a tablerunner sounds good. I did extend the sewing lines passed the block line into the seam allowance and a bit beyond. Also dug out that little pattern wheel from my apparel sewing days...made folding on those lines and then removing paper so much easier. Well, we learn something new about ourselves every day.... I hope the picture appears with this post.....I think I did it right!

Paper Piecing does seem to waste fabric. And I have trouble getting the pieces to go the correct direction without using a much bigger piece than I would if I pieced it the regular way. The only advantage I see is is getting a very detailed design to come out neatly. I have pp'd a 4" ladybug for a sweatshirt sleeve (with a full sized block on the front), and a couple of detailed butterflies, but would not try to do a whole quilt.

You may not love it, but it turned out really well. There can be a lot of waste from PP and can be a lot of work for a whole quilt (ask me how I know that!) but if you have something that needs really sharp points PP is the best way to go. Now if you want to go for scrappy PP you should check out Bonnie Hunters basket weave quilt, that will put a dent in anyone's scrap!
