Find a print in colors you like. It doesn't have to be flowers, any print will do, since it will be so cut up, you most likely won't recognize the original print, it's the colors that stand out. The lengthwise repeat should be a minimum of 6" but preferably 12" or more, up to 24". If the repeat is 6", you'll probably want to buy 12 repeats instead of 6 in order to have enough to work with. I always buy more in order to have some for a border and backing. It also depends on the size quilt you're planning on making. Bed size or smaller for a wallhanging. If the print is large - you'll probably cut wider strips, so you might need more repeats, as well. Sorry - lots of decisions.

I always bite off something bed sized. I do have a few that will never get quilted and finished because I don't like them. You probably waste less time and fabric.
Thanks. The fabric that I have for the large one is a 24" repeat with more colors. The floral was an inexpensive piece I got from my LQS. I knew it wasn't ideal, the print scale & repeat is too small, but it was OK to do a test You can clearly see the original flowers in the blocks. :-( I was just too chicken to cut into a $60 piece of fabric!
