Practicing Winding Curly Feathers

They are beautiful. For those who haven't done them, the trick is to put a dot in the center of that spoon shape so you don't quilt your feathers past the dot and take up all the space. The dot can be real or imaginary. And then there is the beautiful curvatious shape of these feathers. They are just simply gorgeous. Can you tell I love feathers.

The spoon is the top of the feather that has that tight curve. It is almost a circle like you have in a wreath but not quite perfectly circular. Put a wash out dot or a chalk dot in the center of this circular area. Then as you quilt your feathers coming from the bottom of the stem into that spoon area , don"t go past that dot that is effectively the center of your spoon or that area that looks like not quite a perfect circle.

I drew a diagram. On the left is the stem with a dot in the center of the spoon. On the right, the feathers would come from the entire bottom of the stem and you can see how they go in that spoon( or not quite circular circle) never going past the dot. They would continue around the stem until you finish filling in that area with prongs.
