I made this quilt as a retirement gift for a dear friend I have known since childhood. It highlights her love of Asian fabrics and her own glowing loveliness. It was machine quilted, machine appliqued and embellished with crystals, fabric painting and inks. My friend's gown was made from satins and tulle; her earrings are tiny crystals and her pendant is a small bead on a "chain" of doubled metallic foil thread. The misty wisps in the sky are sheer organzas and tulle. The stars in the sky are all individually glued. I am giving it to my friend today and hope she likes it. |

My friend was overcome by a wellspring of emotion knowing that this was made especially for her. She has a few days left at work training her replacement and was through for the day when I met her for lunch to present her with her surprise, but she drove back to work right away after lunch to show her colleagues. She couldn't wait for the next day. This quilt is symbolic of my love for her and a tribute to our lifelong friendship. Only the two of us knew why we were blubbering over our cobb salads. |
