Beautiful quilt-I would use bias binding, it will stretch easier around those corners. Not to sound stupid, but what is "birthing"? I haven 't heard that term before.

I'm glad you asked---Ididn't want to! lol.

I have no advice for you, but I did want to comment on how beautiful it is.

It is beautiful! I don't like the look of the birthing method after I try to quilt it. I can never get my back smooth and end up with puckers. I would bind it. You can look at http://ankastreasures.wordpress.com for her tutorial on binding odd angles for some pointers.

Thanks so much for the link to ankas treasures, her tutorials on binding is great!

Bind it. Cheryl has a tutorial on her web site. http://phillipsfiberart.danemcoweb.c...-binding-help/ Those corners aren't hard.

It measures 47" across. Is it too large to try "birthing it"? Will I get lots of lumps when quilting it? Any suggestions on how to do this method without lots of lumps?
If I bind it, I'm not sure how to do all the small angles. Do you do them the same as corners when doing ordinary binding? Suggestions please!
I could also finish it out as a square wall hanging and just sandiwich and quilt and bind but I really like the decagon shape and would like to keep that.
Thanks so much for any help!

I think I would use in the ditch quilting with varigated or invisible thread from the light colored through the inside circle, then I would quilt around the circle. For each point I would quilt in the ditch also and make sure each of the points were done. Then the back of the quilt would be just like the front. I would also quilt around the entire outside edge. I can't remember just where it is now , but there was a tute I saw showing how to do edges like this when binding. I love your quilt. If I come across the particular tute, I will let you know. Beautiful fab. and beautiful work.

With the right sides of the quilt together sew on the wrong sides - sewing all around the quilt leaving a small opening and turning it inside out. It's like making a tube and turning it inside out. Does this make sense? (If a pillow case or sock for example is turned wrong side out, there is the opening to turn it right side out, you do the same with the quilt, only sew along every edge leaving a large enough opening on one end or side to turn the quilt inside out. I hope this is makes sense.
