Though it makes me sad that few people can appreciate and value a quilt like that from a grandmother, I think the quilt is in the right hands now! It will be a treasure to you even though it wasn't your grandmother who made it.

Glad the quilt can get with someone who will treasure it. Being the sentimental fool that I am, I can't imagine how anyone could get rid of a beautiful quilt made by her grandmother!

i love it, but never heard of a summer quilt, makes me wonder how people can get rid of old quilts.

That quilt was screaming to be loved and appreciated and it found you! You are now officially a quilt rescuer.

She also added that there was no stuffing in it because it was made as a summer quilt. Of course, I was already buying it...but the story to go with it made it even more fun to get. There is not even 1 hole in it and was kept nicely because it isn't very yellowed either. I think it was saved more than used. Anyways, I am very happy to be the new owner of this lovely piece.

What a sonderful quilt. Nice to hear the history. Now you can use it and pass it on.

That's what I'm saying too. Amazing.

What a beautiful quilt. I would hate to have all my hard work go for $4.00!

mamaw 06-14-2010 05:12 PM

I like wvdek's referring to the quilt as sherbet ice cream.

Annz 06-14-2010 06:32 PM

Now that's a nice find.

Great find. Makes you wonder how the family could part with it.

Wow! Lucky you! This is a beautiful quilt top and the touch of history with it is wonderful! I really love the orange fabric mixed with the pinks! Enjoy.

I can't imagine parting with something my Grandma made. I guess they aren't quilters and don't have the appreciation for the work involved. Some folks need everything to be matchy so this probably never made the color scheme. How lucky for you. I never happen onto things like that. Take me shopping with you next time.

GladGrams 06-14-2010 10:59 PM

People who don't quilt have no idea, do they? These folks probably only looked at the colors and assumed it didn't match anything. So sad...

Great buy on quilt - Its beautiful. I guess not everyone has a respect for the work and love that are put into quilts - shame really I hope that maybe there were just so many and everyone in family had picked one and this one was left.

What a TREASURE !!! How delightful that YOU will now give this beauty a new home -- one that appreciates the quilter's time and efforts! Enjoy!
