Completely reversible king-size quilt; both sides are made totally from scraps.
I used Warm & Natural batting. It's a bit heavy as it's got so many (thousands, it seemed!) seam allowances enclosed :o so it's nice to be able to "change" the quilt by just turning it over. This one is "Buggy Wheels". I used white sashing and white binding on this side. I dubbed this [string quilt] side "Just the Scraps, Ma'am"! I used black sashing and black binding on this side. These two photos show the reverse of each side. This is so beautiful and so beautifully made. Can't imagine all the HST you made. And your points are perfect. And it's reversible???!!! You're an artist and a genius and have the patience of Job. This is an outstanding quilt! Inspirational! I love it. Marilyn |

Not sure what qyag is...but your quilt is spectacular. I am always a little leery of putting so many colors together but, I must say, if I could make one as nice as yours, I may just have to give it a try!

Congratulations on a beautiful use of a gazillion scraps! Now what about all the others you made cutting these blocks? It never ever ends does it? One who is doing the same attack on scraps.

That is drop dead gorgeous.

beautiful quilt. Oh, to have enough scraps to make such. That might indicate that i've been busy quilting. ironic, when my kids were little and i sewed for them i had scraps but no time. Now i have time but no scraps.

Wow! Wow! Wow! You definitely won the war! What a delightful idea - to declare war on your scrap basket. I truly love your quilt - or should I say quilts? Your work is so precise, and your color combinations are exquisite. Thank you so much for showing your work. You are a wonderful encouragement. and Congratulations! Dianna C.

Great victory!

I can't decide which side I like better...they are both so gorgeous!!!
|
Your reversible scrap quilt is absolutely beautiful. Would you mind giving me the block sizes of each side of the quilt and sizes to cut strips, etc.?
|
What a stunning quilt, I love it and the fact that it is reversible. How long did it take you? Also we have the same beds. I don't know which side I like the best, they are both so awesome.
|
Your quilt is just wonderful especially since it's a double sided quilt.
|
I think it is beautiful. I love color! Great Job!
|
Beautiful. Just like having 2 quilts.
|
It's all been said but I want to add my praise for your inspirational work.
I am wondering, since it is a QAYG, if you did a full layout to get the colours right before you started, or if you set up a basic scheme (how? light/dark/certain tones?) and just followed that for each QAYG section? Edited to say- I see from Ninnie's post on buggy wheels that it is just lights and darks, so I guess that answers my question. I am just amazed that something so random can produce something so harmonious and easy on the eye. Did you really not have to plan it any more than that?!!! |

The string quilt strips were whatever width they ended up after I'd cut them to get straight sides. It doesn't even matter if they're off-grain since they're sewn down on both sides of each strip. Lots of pieced strips. Maybe I should've dubbed the string quilt side "everything but the kitchen sink"! I sewed the strips onto flimsy paper & then after I'd squared them up with an 8.5" square ruler, removed the paper. The blocks appear to be on point but are actually four 8.5" squares with the four lighter segments sewn together. Thank all of you for your wonderful encouraging words! |
Holy Scraps!! Those are super wonderful!
