I am wondering, since it is a QAYG, if you did a full layout to get the colours right before you started, or if you set up a basic scheme (how? light/dark/certain tones?) and just followed that for each QAYG section?

Edited to say- I see from Ninnie's post on buggy wheels that it is just lights and darks, so I guess that answers my question. I am just amazed that something so random can produce something so harmonious and easy on the eye. Did you really not have to plan it any more than that?!!!

Bless Ninnie's generous posting on Buggy Wheels! I just went by her photos, guessed at the 2.5" piece sizing, and plunged in.

I did lay out each Buggy Wheels block, one row at a time, according to a picture of Ninnie's that I'd printed in color from the computer because the design relies on the placement of the light sections pointing in the right direction.

Love your quilt--what a great way to use scraps which seem to accumulate like rabbits!m Thanks for sharing.

calicojoan 06-21-2012 04:39 AM

OK! I was so inspired yesterday that I decided to start one for myself. I spent the entire day, starching and cutting my scraps. Any great tips you would like to share on making the process easier? This is so darn much fun.

calicojoan 06-21-2012 05:03 AM

On the string quilt side, did you piece it to a foundation piece? You have much larger squares without the binding running thru them. I love the looks of that. I am contemplating using a flannel instead of batting since there are so many seams. It might lighten it up a bit, and with that I am guessing I could just use that as my foundation.

northern lass 06-21-2012 05:21 AM

Absolutely beautiful quilt. Now I know how to use my scraps.
