All the quilts shown are so pretty. I especially like the one shown by Willis with the colored fruits.

Oh I really lke this one as well. What great memories you have of these quilts. I have several that my mother had and I tell her it is like getting a hug from my Mom every night when we go to bed. Lovely

I found this top when going through my mother's things after she died. It was started by my grandmother and was wrapped in newspaper dated 1939. I found it before I started quilting. My daughter took it and had it finished by an older lady close to her. She replaced some pieces that shredded when she washed it, added enough blocks to complete the top and put batting and the backing on. Then she hand quilted it. I think she did a great job and I couldn't believe how little she charged. Anyway here it is. Does anyone know the name of the block?

This most made me break down in tears! My grandmother made quilts and kept them at her house so we could choose which one we wanted to snuggle under when we spent the night. When she became ill and we were already grown up a couple of my cousins and I asked for the quilts, mainly to see where they were when we couldn't find them. When she passed on, we looked again. She taught us also how to crochet which one to this day still does. All the beautiful work she had done sadly turned into drop cloths for automobile work. Yep, oil, body paint everything you could think of:( So, display those quilts with pride as we cannot. They're beautiful. Hope when you cut them up you can bind them with something of hers.

I am always proud to show one of my heirloom quilts. My grandmother made this quilt around 1960 when she was about 70 years old. She hand drew each lady pattern on binder paper. Each dress and bonnet is needle turned applique, with hand attached trim. The ladies' hands, feet, and accessories are hand embroidered. The quilt was hand quilted on the frames which I also inherited. The quilt won ribbons at county and state fairs, then was given to my mom. Mom (now 94 yo) gave the quilt to me because I am the only one of her 4 daughters who actively quilts. Someday my DGD, shown in the picture, will inherit this masterpiece. For now it hangs on my sewing room wall (no direct sunlight) as my inspiration.

What a treasure to have those heirloom quilts to pass down. My Mom quilted, however, we wore the quilts out so there are none remaining, however, I do have a set of embroidered pillow cases that Mom did and I treasure them very much.
