NICE fix! Wow... that's stunning!

debcavan 03-12-2011 03:30 PM

It looks like you originally planned it that way. I think it is an improvement on the original.

Nice colors on the quilt.

Quiltylady 03-12-2011 04:00 PM

Oh my gosh! That is perfect. I really like the inserts. It really adds something. Good solution.

ann31039 03-12-2011 04:30 PM

i love how that looks. i'm gonna try it

quilt crazee 03-12-2011 04:35 PM

PEG is very good at identifying & finding the solution to fix it! Great execution on your part!! BEAUTIFUL!!!

Jingle 03-12-2011 04:38 PM

Beautiful, the fix is as pretty as the original or prettier.

Taughtby Grandma 03-12-2011 04:55 PM

That turned out really pretty. I had that same problem when I tried a lone star a while back. Mine ended up back in strips and I used it in other quilts. Great job on sticking it out and fixing it.

IDquilter 03-12-2011 05:10 PM

You know what? I love the way you fixed it, better than how it is 'supposed' to be. I love the colors and I think you have done a fantastic job, I would never have even attempted to start a Lone Star quilt in the first place. My hats off to you - great job!!

IDquilter 03-12-2011 05:14 PM

Peg,
I forgot to tell you, you know how the lone star got it's name? Once you make one, you will never make another!

Nettie Phillips 03-12-2011 05:46 PM

You done a good job. I proudly would have thrown it in a fire.
I like it.

grammyto2 03-12-2011 05:51 PM

You really owe Peg now!! She designed a lovely fix.

emerald46 03-12-2011 06:05 PM

audsgirl 03-12-2011 09:44 PM

That's a wonderful and creative solution! I think it looks fabulous.

bonniebusybee 03-12-2011 10:51 PM

It's beautiful! Sometimes mistakes lead to something wonderful. I recall when I posted my Lone Star last August or so, and had explained why I pulled two of the borders in under the points, to give it a wider floral border, someone wrote that some of her prettiest quilts resulted from solving a problem. You just proved her right!

sewingmom3 03-13-2011 02:07 AM

love the new design that is made by adding the strips

auntiehenno 03-13-2011 03:25 AM

All right; top *piecing* is finished (although I might add another border). I'm now adding just a few applique'd roses randomly, and I *may* add some embroidered vines and leaves and buds. But the worst is over.

I also have to figure out what I'm putting on the back of this thing.

Overall (but you can't see the corners and edges)

Detail of the corners; very happy with how this came out

Gryphon approves (cuz y'know, all quilts are for him!)

I wish I had thought of doing something like this before I tossed mine out about 25 years ago, mine bubbled up in the center, and there was NO quilting it down. Yours looks great. Good job.

vharris 03-14-2011 08:25 AM

I actually like it better! Oh my gosh it's beautiful! Geat job!

Vickymomof6 03-14-2011 08:39 AM

Looks GREAT all fixed up like that!

gal288 03-14-2011 11:14 AM

I love it! Good work girl.
do you have enough of the rose print, or the Green? They would make a nice back.

Prissnboot 03-14-2011 11:17 AM

Great fix!!! And beautiful inspector on the "before" pic too, I might add...

I have made several of these. Squaring up keeps the bump in the middle away.

Is that template the desired final shape of the diamond segment? Also, when you say 'square up the diamonds' prior to sewing them together, does that allude to making sure they're all the same outer dimensions, using that template? I'm trying to learn how to avoid the center bump, too, so am very interested in any advice before I launch into a lone star. Thanks for mentioning that, too.

Grandma58 03-16-2011 05:53 PM

When you get ready to sew a star send me a pm I will be happy to talk you through it- they are really easy.

When I have puffy stuff going on in quilts others bring me I add an extra layer of wool batting in that area, a little larger then the actual area- of course I am using a long arm which helps. I like dream wool batting because it is puffier- you also can not tell on the finished project that extra has been added.
