WOW! Amazing work!

Charleen DiSante 06-01-2010 01:30 PM

Thanks, it looks like it would be one piece but I wasn't sure. Recently, at our quilt guild we did a 12 inch square. The demonstrator said we had to cut off the section just before we were ready to needle turn applique. I see how that would be especially important for you on this one. So glad you showed this work of art to us. We are lucky to see it.

It is one piece. Remember the paper snowflakes we learned how to make in grade school? That's how the applique' is done - folded in eighths and then cut through all 8 layers at once.

Ditto!

I just finished listening to Jennifer Chiaverini's book "The Aloha Quilt." I learned a lot from that book, both in the quilting end and also the history of the "Queen's Quilt". That is a gorgeous quilt. Also the scenery is described as absolutely awe-some, some of the food sounded delicious, Pineapple Pecan muffins. Anyhow, it is giving me the idea of doing a Hawaiian style quilt. Yours was gorgeous, too! Edie

Just such a beautiful job and I love the colours.

Quilt Mom 06-02-2010 04:53 AM

What a beautiful quilt! I admire your persistence. It would take me years to finish one.

Beautiful! At one time I contemplated doing a Hawaiian-style quilt, but after doing a couple of pillow tops I don't think I want to attempt that big a project. I have a pattern for a wall hanging which will probably take me a year to finish! :)

kacy 49 06-02-2010 12:46 PM

Absolutely stunning. Love those colors.

maggiek 06-02-2010 12:58 PM

I have made this pattern too and totally love it. I used it as a medallion in my avatar quilt. You did a great job on it.

Annz 06-02-2010 05:56 PM

That's beautiful and is so inspiring. My dd sent me a kit from Kauai and I rcv'd it today. I love handwork so this will be perfect. I would love to know any tips that you have on the applique work. Thanks for sharing your masterpiece with us.

It took me a year, too! Boy, am I glad it's done. I'm already thinking of another one. I should probably have my head examined!

Yours is gorgeous! Did you do each of your appliques' separately, sew them together, and then quilt it all in one piece? The thought of doing a bed-size scares the bejeebers out of me, but maybe I could do it in sections.....

Rina 06-03-2010 06:04 AM

Lovely!!

That's what I mean about not wanting to undertake such a large project! One of my aunts (who is part Hawaiian) made a quilt for each of her six kids and each took two to three years (on and off, of course). But they were all beautiful. Like you, maybe in sections . . . ?

MissyGirl 06-03-2010 09:32 AM

cwessel47 06-03-2010 11:52 AM

Someway or another I will attempt applique. Perhaps this post will get me going. I like to do stuff I can draw oh graph paper but this is just too beautiful to ignore. What size is it? I didn't read all of the posts, I'm afraid. Another will be finished in a year and a half!

nwm50 06-03-2010 12:19 PM

Oh my stars! This is just grand! How long did it take you to do?

nwm50 06-03-2010 12:20 PM

Oh, i see it took a year. But still that's is such a wondeful pauit. The colors are awesome too. Thanks for sharing.

hulahoop1 06-14-2010 12:41 PM

This one finished at about 42 inches square. I'm too chicken to try anything much larger. But maybe one of these days.....

rootyr 06-14-2010 01:42 PM
