For a 90" x 90" finished quilt I started with 18" squares. The method allows for extra for the cutting up and resewing process. When they were done I trimmed them down to 15". The sashing method used for this quilt does not add to the size.

Making it with shirts was my idea; I just wanted to do that for the sport of scavenger hunting. Using shirts was more time consuming than fabric as the usable parts had to be removed. For ones I really loved I pieced the fronts together to use them too. The pattern actually calls for yardage.

Any idea how many shirts it took to make this? And are they silk or poly?

Very good looking quilt you have made!!

After a while I quit counting. I bought maybe 20 shirts I guess. My 90" 90" quilt has 36 squares. Each (men's) shirt gives you one square from the back and one from the front, if you piece it, which doesn't show once the squares are finished. Oh, and I did buy two yards of fabric also. I ended up with some left overs of the shirt pieces. Sorry I can't be more specific.

I used only 100% cotton shirts.
