Can I borrow him....LOL

Boxer mom 11-16-2010 08:10 PM

Me, me, me next please. I have an old dinning table (from 1960) I bought way back when I was 19 (I will be 50 on thangsgiving) from an older couple and I love how sturdy it is.
I have kept it all these years and use it as my sewing table now.
He does very nice work.

Wow, what a great husband!!!! I know this will elimate all those aches and pains!

ljptexas 11-17-2010 03:46 AM

Wow, do U have a keeper! I lost my hubby 9 yrs ago & he would have done this for me. I do so want my machine to set down in a well. What did he use to support it on the bottom?

U might have to give directions as to how he did it?!!

Hi again....a couple of you asked what was under the table where the machine sits. I've attached some pictures. Be warned..the underneath wasn't meant to be seen so it's not pretty...lol.

I found it a bit hard to get down to take pictures so they're not the best. But what he did was quite simple - he attached some timber supports to the side and middle table struts, and to the front (you can just see them) and then just sat quite a thick piece of plywood, cut to fit snugly, on top of the supports. It doesn't look like much holding the plywood up, but in fact, it is quite solid. He said he still needs to put a support along the back of the plywood, which will probably be good, although, as I said, it's quite solid now anyway. He also said he would like to modify it further later by making the plywood shelf adjustable so I can raise and lower the machine, but I'm really not fussed...he has the height just right as it is and I'm sure I'll get around the odd times I need to use the free arm

I am so gad that you posted the underside! I will have to show DH so he can work on finding a table. How clever to have the back of the table fold. Your DH thought of everything. Please tell him about his "Great Job"

What a terrific husband! They are wonderful about figuring out how to do things to make it all easier for us, huh?

key4unc 10-16-2012 05:49 AM

That's beautiful. Is your hubby for hire?

dove 10-16-2012 07:32 AM

i'm sooo impressed!!!...he did such an amazing job...he has certainly earned himself a quilt if he doesn't already have one!!!...he should go into business!!

vintagemotif 10-16-2012 07:35 AM

Nicely done! Great way to recycle. Enjoy your new sewing space!

quilter1430 10-16-2012 08:31 AM

You're going to love having your machine sitting flush with the table! Ever since mine has been like this, I have found tremendous relief from my shoulder pain and I can see the needle so much better too. Your husband did a fabulous job!

purplefiend 10-17-2012 07:49 PM

I have a Horn Quiltmate II that I bought about 9 years ago, its especially nice. Just by changing out the free arm insert I can put any of my 4 machines in the cabinet, lots of room for machine quilting. The machine sits flush with the table, has the air lift too.

Very nice, happy sewing!

miss_ticky2 10-17-2012 10:27 PM

Thanks everyone...I didn't realise there were new posts here...lol.
Yes, it's a great relief to the shoulders to have the machine flat. And yes, I'm sure he'd love to be for hire just for a trip to the States....lol.

mary j 10-21-2012 07:44 PM

He must love you very much!

MamaInRed 10-21-2012 08:27 PM

Janice.....Thank You for posting your picture....I bought a table for my sewing machine last year for $60 off craigslist. I have been wanting an extension table but couldn't find one I liked....I love this little folding table I bought. It is in my sewing room/guest bedroom. After seeing your post I asked my wonderful husband(THAT LOVES FOOTBALL ON THE WEEKENDS) LOL if he could possibly make a sewing like yours with mine. Well I want to post my labor of Love he did for me..... I LOVE IT!!!!!!

Dogwood Quilter 11-18-2012 08:17 AM

I love it and your machine looks similar to my Pfaff 7550. My hubby isn't handy so now to find a table and a Handy Man to do the job. lol

hperttula123 11-18-2012 08:23 AM

you sure have a great hubby!!!

A1penny 11-18-2012 08:28 AM

What a handy husband! My husband just about knows the difference between a screwdriver and a hammer! Your husband did a fantastic job, and I know you are going to love that new place to sew.

cowgirlquilter 11-18-2012 09:22 AM

Isn't that awesome?????

Wow nice job.

Dogwood Quilter 11-18-2012 07:59 PM

Can we get these husbands to post some tutorials on how to do this? One question I have is how do you get to your bobbin if it isn't a top loader?

Yes, I can lift up the infill piece too, although mine is a top loader so don't need it for that. But, I do remove it if I want to use the free arm. Works fine like that.
