Does it have a frame around the whole edge, so the fabric is stretched tight or does it hang from a rod at the top?

I hear ya! There isn't a single inch of space to put up a design wall in my sewing room....in desperation, I pinned up a flannel backed tablecloth in my hall. If I stood in the bathroom and looked across the hall at it, I got a pretty good perspective of my quilt in progress. It really was a big help!

tortoisethreads - BTW - very nice design wall and quilt in progress. Love the colors.

I have a wall that I could put a design board on it. What is a design board made of????? and the size.

It depends on what you want. Some folks just stretch flannel on boards, and leave it up. I needed something that I could put up and down as needed. I went to Target (could also go to WM) and got a decent weight plastic table cloth with flannel backing. I think it cost me $5 or $8. Then I just tack it up on the hall wall. For a smaller quilt, I have some magnetic strips and I attach it to my closet door metal track. The fabric stuck to the flannel like a champ. I think if you google design wall on the board here you will find lots of suggestions. Good luck.

Nice board, great looking quilt pattern! Would like to see a closeup of these fabrics and design. Can you post a photo of the blocks which are on the design board? Thanks.

Looks great, I've never used one.

I agree! A design wall is the cat's meow for a quilter. I have to figure out where to put mine in the new room. Once you have one you can't do without it!

Congrats on your new (old) one. I know you will just love it.

That's awesome! I love having one, but mine is pretty lame and leaves fuzz on the back of my blocks. It's the back of cheap tablecloth material. I really want one with a flatter and firmer surface, but that will have to wait until my kids leave for college!

My 8yr old daughter is making a chinese coins quilt with that very same jelly roll you have up there!
