I bet you are glad you stuck to making this amazing quilt. Thanks for showing us this beauty. Your mini is showing me what I can do with a little stick to it. I tend to give up to easy.

About a year ago, someone on here posted the seed that shrunk in my mind. Her large quilt was in black and white and I was intrigued. I know that I responded to it by saying I wanted to try it in red and white instead. Gung ho - ready to go! There wasn't a pattern - but that rarely stops me. Besides I wanted to make a mini. And so I began. A year ago. The first time I put the rows together it came out tumbler shaped - fully two inches wider on the bottom than the top. I let it rest. I stewed, I contemplated. I took it apart months later and tried again. Close but no cigar. I couldn't work on anything! I was so frustrated.
Eventually, I missed quilting so much that I had to develop my mantra - if at first you don't succeed - try, try again. And I was determined to finish it. I did! I did! 20" (nearly) square.

It is just beautiful never give up, I tried the stand up rose in crocheting and it took me 20 tries to get it right. but I did it.

Wonderful job! I hope you celebrated after you were done. It is lovely.

That is beautiful!! You said you did not have a pattern to go by. Did you perhaps save the pattern you made for yourself and be willing to share or did you find a pattern for this later? My favorite color is purple and this would be beautiful done in shades of purple I think.

If perfect is what you struggled over, you succeeded. Amazing what some people can accomplish when a burr gets lodged in their brain. I might add, a beautiful burr, indeed.

You did a fantastic job considering that you did not have a pattern. The name of the pattern is Optical illusion and is in the book Strip pieced Quilts by Maakie Bakkar. After driving myself crazy looking for it on used book sites, I finally went to the 'horse's mouth' and ordered it from her own European website. It cost me about $30 including international postage but I think it was well worth the price.
