Our youngest granddaughter Makayla will be 12 this coming November and is extremely interested in the universe, stars, planets, etc, (Maybe a budding astronaut? Time will tell.) so thought I'd make her a quilt for Christmas. Her favorite color is red, and I found ALL this fabric in MY STASH! Yippee! The star was fun to make, using muslin as the "paper" for a paper-pieced style star. This is the pattern and instructions I used if anyone is interested. The hardest part was in making the pattern, but not really difficult. I added batting behind the star's center to make it "pop" a little. If I had it to do again, I'd add two layers of batting instead of one behind the star center. I'll embroider her name on the center red area of one of the borders and maybe do something "special on the other red center border area, but for now, it's basically done and I can do the rest at a later date...like just before shipping it! lol
