Here is the house pattern that Joyplace requested. Please note that the pattern is in reverse so make sure you "flip and sew" so the correct pieces are on the front and not the back. It finishes at 8" and you can turn the fabric to the front to finish off the binding. I left the edge on there for you to do that. Hope all of you will post your creations when finished with your house blocks! :-D

I'd love to see them all in person. There seems to be so much to see in each one. Really nice. Are they all from patterns or do you sometimes "do your own thing"? Thanks for sharing.

CarolSLC 04-11-2010 07:22 AM

I also love to make house block patterns. I made one almost like your last one displayed here...the pattern was called HULA HUTS, designed by a local quilter on Kauai, Hawaii, where I lived before coming to Salt Lake City (ugh :-( so cold) I SOLD it at our Quilt Guild quilting bazaar (?) $50.00...was I thrilled! Thanks for sharing. CAROLSLC

Am drooling too! The German people are so creative! I loved Nurenberg with the KrisKringle Markets! Fabulous creations all over, esp. Garmisch/Partenkirschen; fabulous creativity there! Never saw a piece of trash in any German's yard the whole time I lived there!! Thank you for sharing this; will go back and revisit more of their work time allowing.

This a great collection of photos from other quilt artists. I only have a few here. These are photos I collected for inspiration purposes only but I usually do my own thing when it comes to patterns. This is to give us all ideas! Aren't there great ideas here? Hope to see you post some creations you make or share photos of others' house blocks. Your quite welcome. :D :D

that hour was worth it, Wow, what talent, i just love them. not only are the details interesting but they are just darling!!! Really like the star centered one w/ R,W,& blue & the large town quilt.

franie 04-11-2010 09:11 AM

Those were fun! Love 'em all. But I am not fond of making them. We did them one time for an exchange I was in. So much work went into them. But I put mine together using the BQ pattern and it looked like streets between the houses. One of my grandson's has the quilt now. Thank you for posting all those pics!

The RWB star-centered one is a great one! Gives me lots of ideas! They have their charm viewing ea separately! Glad you enjoyed it and can be revisited anytime you go to do a house design!

IngeMK 04-11-2010 09:34 AM

Oh, I just looked through all of them again. I have to try to make some more. Here's what I did so far..it's a Miss rosie pattern http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-33584-1.htm
I have got to try the beach huts some time soon...

You are so right -- house construction of the blocks can be so laborious but with the right pattern it can be a cinch! Quiltville site is a good one! I like the simplest construction on the houses and they are just as charming as those really labored over. Not posted here today were wonky houses. We'll have to do another thread on just the wonky ones with nothing to line up or match. Your welcome; I loved downloading it all and welcome to the QB from VA! You will totally love this site of all that you see and learn!!

Thank you, Maksi, for telling us how you did that great glitter job on the fabrics!! Aren't these houses great? Yes, I think about all the neat shacks in the world I've seen pics of and would like to do a rendition of them some time. A houseswap sounds great! Anything to do with houses sounds good!! And your quite welcome!

:D :D

sewsue 04-11-2010 11:14 AM

My rendition will be something to see I'm sure! haha. I don't know about talent. I just do my own thing and love to dabble a bit with color and if it turns out good, that's all the better!

Wallhanging with bright cottons, using pattern in book "Freddy's House"
by Freddy Moran. It is handquilted in black DMC thread, big stitch.

diannscrafts 04-11-2010 01:22 PM

Hear is a idea, Several years ago I did a wall hanging with a quilt shop on it and had tiny quilts hanging on a clothes line. Wish I had pictures of it to show you, but you get the idea

STEMSAM 04-11-2010 01:23 PM

Love the block. Beautiful work.

Thank you for sharing that! I have seen lots of quilts of quilt shops displaying the quilts! ha. The best one that got so many awards was Jesse Harrison of San Diego, may she rest in peace, for her extremely mini mini quilts of quilt shops displaying the quilts. Were they ever micro-mini!! Something like the Amish do. All of her work was in juried shows and won blue ribbons. This is a great idea for another thread!
