What a heartwarming story!

tellabella 11-11-2010 09:53 PM

She looks like she is having a great time..and how amazing you are to be so patient...

amma 11-11-2010 10:22 PM

Awwww (((HUGS))) this is awesome!! (((HUGS))) DD looks so cute sitting at her machine :D:D:D

I have an autistic niece, so I know exactly what you mean!!

Have you thought about glue basting? There wouldn't be any pins needed, unless you don't want her using an iron? Maybe she could glue and you could heat set?

I bet I speak for all of us on the Board. We're all very proud of this huge leap for your beautiful daughter. May sewing bring her peace in the future.

YaY!

Well as the mother of a son with Autism I know how wonderful those milestones are. The sensory issues are really hard, my 11 year old son wore jeans for the first time this year(he will only wear sweat pants or kakis). LOL, he calls them hard pants but has decided that they are not so horrible.

Great job!

Carrie

Making memories is a beautiful thing, she will charish this
time with you forever, save the picture and when she gets
married give it to her.

sahm4605 11-12-2010 09:25 AM

how wonderful!!!!. Does she like to "shop" for fabric? sometimes they like to touch and feel all the different fabric. it is like going into a giant petting zoo for fabric. (I don't have autism, but I like to touch and feel the fabric too) I am sooooooo excited for both of you guys. sending lots of hugs and squishies!!!!

Great job Isabelle!!!

desertrose 11-13-2010 05:48 PM

My 15 yr. old GS has Asberger's Syndrom so I'm very much aware of j ust how monumental today was for her and the fact that she came to you when she was ready to face her fears was wonderful. Your daughter knows how much she's loved by you and has total trust in you to help her conquer her mountains.

God Bless you both,
Andie :D :D :D

Luv Quilts and Cats 11-13-2010 06:05 PM

Bless her precious heart. I know this was a very proud moment for you, as well as her. She will get so much enjoyment out of the pillow since she made it herself. Maybe this is the beginning of your sewing/quilting times together. God Bless you both!

I know about autism and the different fears they live with. I have a friend with a son who has autism. He is afraid of clouds and rain. Tina is building a school for children with autism and Asperger's. Joey is now in middle school and there is no place for him. He functions at a high level so he doesn't fit in life skills, but not high enough for mainstream. So, yes, I know what a milestone this is for both you and your daughter.
