That is absolutely amazing!! What a beautiful job you did on your DJ quilt! I'm blown away at the amount of time you finished it in!! Fabulous job!!!!

I love it, especially the center block. I understand your son is an Aggie, but where is a block of a LongHorn, you have other pics that relate to this great state, but no long horn, not necessarily UT long horn. My neice and her hubby are Aggie graduates. I'm a UT grad. but love all things pertaining to Tx. in general. I love the Tx. touch you gave this quilt. Gerbie
Gerbie, my Grandson is an Aggie thus the A&M logo. He said if I put a longhorn on it he would dehorn it personally. They love to egg-on the rivalry! (I did have a longhorn cut out but had too much trouble with the machine applique on the ends of the horns so it was either I omit it or dehorn it myself. Ironic thing is we have longhorn cattle on our farm. (The beef doesn't taste like a UT longhorn, tho.)
Just an aside, I lived in Ft Stockton back in the late 60-early 70. Love the area still. Have to visit Big Bend every couple of years. |
O my goodness, what a wonderful quilt.
Your quilt is absolutely wonderful. I don't know if I could work on something for 5 months. I get too distracted with other ideas. Good for you.
I understand the rivalary well. I have lived in Pecos since 1970. My DH and I met while working at the Duval plant between Imperial and Stockton, and were both transferred to Pecos. We married in 70. He came in 69 and I was transferred in 70 when they closed the plant there. I grew up in McCamey and he in Alpine. I love this part of Tx. Lived in Ky. for 2 yrs and W. Va. for 7, (I hated every day I was there), and finally got back home. My dad was in the oil & gas business when we lived in Ky. and W. Va.
If your sisters do as beautiful work as you, we would dearly love to see their work too.
Wow! Beautiful!
Ohhhh My Goodness! What an amazing, beautiful, gorgeous quilt. Color me ever color of impressed there is. You did a fabulous job. Thank You so much for sharing. As for the quilting, I've been looking at the pics & I don't have a clue. I keep saying to myself, "Don't take away from the beautiful blocks & the piecing." Anxious to see what you decide.
This is an amazing wonderfull quilt. I love it and I love it that you put your own Texas blocks in it.
from onr Texan to another, you did a terrific job on that quilt. i always wanted to do a "jane quilt. can't wait till its finished. molly
Oh my!!! That quilt is gorgeous!!!! I can't believe that you are finished in 5 months....   I love your Texas personal touch. Knowing how hard these little babies are (for me)...I bow down to you...its wonderful!!! Great job! Now, can't wait to see how you quilt it.

*W O W* :D
I am doing the DJ on this thread too
How beautiful! Can't wait for mine to get to a "put together" stage. Yours is wonderful!
For those of you working together on the Jane Stickle quilt enjoy every minute - even the ones where Jack the Ripper is involved. I had to recut and made 2 whole blocks.
My quilt is for MY bed. It's 105" square and has 6061 pieces, not counting the backing and binding for the scalloped edges. The corners on the outside border are pictures of a cowboy and/or his horse and dog. Saw the fabric at the Tyler quilt show and thought "there's my corners for second row". I'm thinking the binding will be a navy (small) print because the bindings always seem to show age first. |
I love your quilt. I'm from Texas too and my future son-in-law attends A&M. He's majoring in mechanical engineering. I made him a A&M rail fence quilt and he loved it. Our A&M boys and girls are very special to us down here in Texas.
That's a LOT of very nice work there!
Betty, I wonder how hard it would be to talk Gangles into doing some hand quilting on your Tx. Jane. lol.

Klue, I would love to see your progress on your indigo Jane quilt. Indigo is one of my favorite colors in a quilt, so calming.
I wouldn't mind if you PM'd me. |
i'll put up a separate thread because a bunch of people have been PMing me asking what i've been working on.
i'll put the thread up in the photo section, i'll post a link to the jane blocks and then pics of all the other quilts i've made while working on jane. |
I like the girl in the bathtub. Really cute. :-) How big is each block?
Marymild the "lady" in the bathtub is me! Kinda hard to shampoo with the cowgirl hat on so it stays by the backdoor most of the time. Each of the blocks in the "Jane" quilts are normally 4 1/2" finished. Mine are, too. I wanted the extra size so I added the outer set of triangles. It looks good on my King bed. Now for the small matter of quilting it!
BEAUTIFUL!!!!
Very lovely - well done!
Your quilts are so beautiful (I can't even fathom how you did the cathedral window blocks) and the fact that you did your Texas Jane in five months blows me away! I think your theme song must be "rock around the clock"! You have inspired me to get back to my Jane I started with Klue and her group. Thank you. Hugs
I like my baths, too. Have to get a cowboy hat! You did a great job on the quilt. Much work.
I love it, I am gone to make a sampler quilt one of these days. may be next year, after I am done with Christmas this year. thank you so much for sharing your beautiful work. God bless. Penny
How in the world did I miss this before? This quilt is amazing and no PP?!?!? Wow you are one very talented piecer! I also love your Texas originals to the quilt and love how you placed the colors of the blocks to give that graduated square on point appearance going from green to peach to blue! Simply inspiring!
I would definitely wait until you get really comfortable with your longarm before putting this baby on the frame. |
So creative, and personalized. Great job, and you are so speedy.

They were addicitve! I only pieced a few with the applique since I'm not an appliquer and the rest I machine pieced, no PP. I did substitute about 15 blocks with my Texana pieces and others with midget block at random. My favorite is the A&M logo (where my oldest grandson is studying thru the Seaman to Admiral program in the US Navy). Now the hard part of quilting it! I'm very open to suggestions as how to showcase the quilt with the quilting. I just got a LAQ but haven't developed any skills with it.

great adaptation!

WOW and double WOW!! Awesome quilt!!!!!!
