I just love this subject! I have gathered old sewing accessories and buttons for many years. I have also made a few etwe
boxes (sp?) and sewing kits. It is so very fun to gift them. I have a kit to make one still in the plastic I bought from a quilt store about eight years ago. In my defense, I know how many hours it takes to finish one.
The fifties kits are so fun many of them were made with space fabric and rockets.

I think you mean 'etui' and some of them are absolutely fantastic. I think I know what I'll be perusing this afternoon. Thank you for the idea. https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/smile.png

After perusing etui's all afternoon (instead of cleaning house and doing other things I should have been doing) it dawned on me that I have the petal bag I made for my Elizabethan costume and could use that as an etui instead of it just gathering dust. Here's some pictures of it.

Do you think this would work for a Victorian style sewing area or is it too renaissancy?

Awesome! I collect a lot of old sewing things...I suspect most of us do. (LOL) House sales are a great place to find treasures. I absolutely love your "Pin Cushion". so glad you joined this board.

Your bag is beautiful! Don't let it gather dust any longer. Are those little pockets on the inside of each petal?

Thank you for the compliment - it was the first bag I ever sewed and it was done by hand.

Yes, those are pockets on the petals.

Kind of weird, but I was in Hobby Lobby on Monday and in the house decor area, I saw and picked up one of those pin cushions. Not knowing it could be used for a pin cushion. I'm sure this one (the only one) was for the "Farmhouse" look of decorating these days. Had I known it was a pin cushion, I think I would have gotten it.
