#2. The lines flow (floating patches in #3 break the flow) without seeming just busy (as #1). But art is always in the eye of the beholder. Any one of the patterns would be beautiful!
|
I like #1 the best. It just seems to flow better than the other two and the outside border seems to set off the rest of the quilt and balance it.
|
I like 1 the best, but 3 might really show your quilting off in the white areas.
|
#1 is the most traditional and color-interesting, and my favorite.
#2 looks unfinished to my eye. #3 looks contemporary and that might be 'you'. to me it looks like you didn't have enough fabric to fill in the white spots. when will you tell us what you like best? |

Option 1. it is more pleasing to my eyes.

sorry, double post.
|
Love #1. Very eye pleasing. Good work also. Thanks
|
i like them all, but i think #1 best.
|
I like the one with the wide white border with the 4 Patches and the wide blue sashing...#3. I like the others but 3 appeals to my eye the most.
|
Of those three options, I prefer #1.
#2, too much white border. #3, not crazy about the 4 patch, it competes with the center squares. I completely agree |
Option 1
Unless you plan on doing some type of fancy stitching along the outer border, then I pick option 2 if you added some type of special stitching within the blank canvas of material. |
I like #1 better. It looks scrappy, but planned. #2 looks like you decided to add borders later. Whatever you decide, hope you post the finished quilt.

Thanks to everyone for your opinions. #1 is the clear winner in my survey. Here's the story behind this post.
I originally intended to do this charm quilt with no borders, just charms for the whole top. Then I thought maybe I'd alternate charm blocks and plain muslin blocks. But I did a 9-patch similar to that and didn't really like the results. So I started playing with other options. I really like layout #1 but it was too small for the size I need. So I added the plain border (#2). That was acceptable but as some of you mentioned it just looks like I added a border. From there I went to #3. Maybe a little better but it didn't really appeal to me. Actually, I only posted this layout to see what you'd think and was surprised that it came in second. I really need the larger size so now I've taken your comments and come up with Option #4. I think this might be my solution. What do you think? (Ignore the white background behind both quilts.) Option #1 (left) compared to #4 (right) |
I like option#3. The white spaces provide "rest for the eyes."
|
I vote for option 1.
|
I like number 1 with the thin outer border as the inner border and the framing inner borders as the outer border ;) Know what I mean?

Personally I am going for number 2 - it has a classic look with the crisp white outer border but is still patchwork soft.
|
since you're going for size, i like #4 with an additional blue border to finish it off.
just a thin muslin stripe and then another blue. |
#1 or #4 since you need the larger size. :)
|
I still like # 1.
|
I like #1; but #2 would look outstanding with some appliqued vines leaves and flowers in the corners

Since you need the quilt larger, I think #4 looks great! Did you do these layouts in EQ?
|
Of course I'm different. It's your quilt, do it your own way!
I guess if I have to choose it woud be # 2 on the last page, as you need the larger size. Marilyn(sweetsie) |
It's a toss up between #1 & #3, I cant decide, so I will take 'em both!(hehehe)
|
I still like #1. Depending on the size needed could you not add another block of colors then the border, or a border like the inner border around your color blocks? The #4 white area seems, to me, as if you ran out of colors and had to use the white material. Believe me I could be wrong, it is just the way my brain sees it. Either way, your work is great to look at and your combination of colors really WORKS.
Good thoughts, Connie |

I like # 1 the best. It has almost a 3D effect with the middle portion coming forward. It also seems to be nicely balanced.
